Retirement is a part of life which catches many people off guard as most must reinvent who they are, what they do and how they do it. Individuals must recognise that they will now be living on a fixed income and that will limit their activities and purchases. In addition, retirees must continue to integrate with community members and participate in activities that give them a sense of accomplishment. Finally, as the retirement age moves forward and life expectancy extends, all considerations must include a timeline of forty years or more, as well as a contingency plan for unexpected events (LeBras and Brown, 2005).
